John Puttick Associates are working with Watford Borough Council to revive Vicarage Road Cemetery Chapel through re-use as a community arts studio. The project includes a bespoke new entrance within the existing archway. The new door and surrounding fixed panels are largely glass to allow natural light and views into the building while maintaining thermal comfort. Horizontal bronze elements pick-up on lines within the surrounding stonework while verticals at the centre relate to the partitioning of the existing timber doors. The bronze material and detailing gives a jewellery-like quality to the design.
Installation is expected in summer 2020.
