John Puttick Associates worked with Watford Borough Council to revive Vicarage Road Cemetery Chapel for re-use as a community workspace and arts studio. The project included a bespoke new entrance within the existing archway. The new door and surrounding fixed panels are largely glass to allow natural light and views into the building while maintaining thermal comfort. Horizontal bronze elements pick-up on lines within the surrounding stonework while verticals at the centre relate to the partitioning of the existing timber doors. The bronze material and detailing gives a jewellery-like quality to the design.
Construction was completed in summer 2020.
